Don't Say I Didn't Warn You: Apple iPhone Keynote 2019

Image
Apple is moving on, regardless of if you are coming with them or catch up later. Ladies and gentlemen! I have my new AppleWatch series 5 on its way!!! I could not be happier about this important moment for my Apple Loving Life! I will keep you guys updated on my thoughts as I enjoy this new always on screen life. BUT, there were also other things to talk about… The new phones are good if not great. They are not "innovating" massively and taking a leap into the unknown; they are betting on a more incrementally significant upgrade. Enough to excite but not too much as to take a big risk that could backfire. How is that a good thing? Well, because the iPhone is slowly winding down, and services and Apple Watch are exploding up. Apple has known for a couple of years now that the iPhone’s power in the market has been set, that people have great phones made by them and have now become a victim of their own success. Older models are still performing strong and steady, PLUS

JOKER

Image
Joaquin Phoenix had a short interview a day ago about the Joker movie and of course, it got me thinking of a lot of things to consider BEFORE I see this movie in a bit less than a month’s time. Heath Ledger portrayed one of the most iconic villain roles in superhero and movie history: The Joker. And his untimely death made people think all kinds of crazy theories about how it affected him in some shape or form. HOWEVER, you then take some time and investigate what his co-stars in the movie say about his attitude on set and around the movie you realize how he actually seemed to be well and enjoyed to portray this scary and crazy/psychotic character. This movie is about the degradation that society brings upon a man (in this case Arthur Fleck) to make him become the Joker and one of the statements that makes me think about this is when Phoenix says “to be honest, I thought it was a great joy to play Joker. I preferred to play Joker over Arthur. (…) Everything is so uncomfo

TODAY!

Image
Today is no ordinary day. Wherever you are in the world there is something in the air happening and whether you want to know or not, I am letting you know. Apple is evolving away from the iPhone; the biggest consumer sold product in history is no longer going to be their growth factor. I have said this before HOWEVER, today the Apple Card is being launched today in the United States. Apple Music is already a proven success that continues to grow; Apple TV+ will be out in some countries in November and seems quite promising; Apple News is a hit or miss service that maybe forgotten or improved because right now it’s not polished enough and Apple Arcade has started some buzz (although to be honest it’s the one service I am not too sure about how to review). All of this to state the grand change in Apple growth despite the stagnation and now decrease in iPhone sales worldwide. Apple Card is a completely different bet on apple’s behalf: it is a tech approach to a space in

Apple of the Future

Image
This is when I say, “I told you so” I have been screaming online ever since 2016 that Apple knows the underlying truth of any successful business evolution and adaptation: YOU should be the one to put yourself out of business. Apple has become an iPhone dependent company since around 2012 when basically half or more than half of their revenue came from iPhone sales. As a result of their success they could not just sit on their behind and enjoy the ride of growth that the most popular device sold in history gave them. Getting ready for THIS past quarter of revenue was something I can assure you they have been strategizing for. A TWO DIGIT DROP in iPhone sales and yet they still had growth year over year… what? How? If you google it, you can get the numbers, the breakdown, the pessimists and the optimists. THIS is my point of view, an AppleWormist way of looking at the company whom I trust, criticize, admire and fear, all at the same time. Let’s face it, Apple has at the mos

MCU coming soon...

Image
One day, I hope I will be lucky enough to attend a Comic-Con, hopefully a big one like NY or San Diego. Someday, it is one of my dreams and goals to be at a Geek environment like no other and enjoy a big announcement or trailer reveal like those at Comic-Con this past weekend. So, from a distance, these are my thoughts about the Marvel phase 4 line up of movies and series. May 1 st 2020: This movie is SO long overdue, but that does not mean it is bad timing. We do not know how greatly written TaskMaster and the Black Widow confrontation is. I believe this has the potential of being an amazing prequel to Infinity War and Endgame; further exploration of Natasha’s past will make us empathize even further with her character and decisions later on, which we already know from the movies. I can only say that this will definitely add an emotional punch to the Soul Stone scene from Endgame between Romanoff and Hawkeye. Fall 2020: The Falcon and Winter Soldier TV Series will force

Spiderman Far From Home: Dealing with Expectations

Image
Walking into this movie I was fearful of how one of my favorite Spiderman villains (mysterio) was going to be used given the background that the MCU has in terms of villains being represented for this universe in a different way, for example “the Mandarin”. Dr. Ludwig Rinehart, Quentin Beck a.k.a. Mysterio is a horrible actor because he is an incredible special effects artist whose superpower is one that exists in the real world more than we would wish: deception. And for this movie, I cannot believe HOW WELL they used Quentin’s deception to highlight Peter Parkers innocence and fear of responsibility. Mysterio is not a person, he is a group of disgruntled Stark Industries workers that decided to take advantage of the power void that Tony left when he died to take advantage of the technology they had worked with him for their own agenda. Quentin simply takes over everyone and their agenda becomes his own. I COMPLETELY disagree with the people that criticize the exposition scene

An Impatient Dreamer

Image
It has been some time since I wrote out a personal piece. So you have been warned, here it comes. You know how in work interviews they ask what you think your biggest strength and flaw are? Well, for me those are quite straightforward: I have the great strength of being a goal setter, not a dreamer (at least that is how I like to see it). I love looking forward to a date, thinking outside the box and, even when it seems unlikely, find a goal to check up on that idea that once I dreamed of. I love starting things and I LOOOVE getting to the end and looking back at all the hardships. I am a dreamer… HOWEVER… I am also impatient. I set short, middle or long-term goals, but I always want the payoff to my dreams and goals NOW. I want to have and cherish micro-goals on the way to the main goal. I guess that also makes the main goal that much more worthwhile and makes me that much more driven towards every new goal. I just wish I had more patience. My drive depends on how mu

Chernobyl Mini Series Review

Image
Imagine you put your hand in a fire, but this fire does not hurt, you can barely feel something warm from it. Meanwhile, you hand is melting off… Imagine instead of placing your hand into the fire, you were just close enough to only be burnt drastically if you stay there for a long enough time, and the person right beside you knew and did not tell you until it is too late and you were already going to lose your hand or maybe even worse… Radiation is a complex and horrific death process that is described in the HBO series Chernobyl Some of the greatest stories to be told in the history of the world are those that have been silenced or forgotten. Chernobyl is one of the best series I have had the pleasure of watching since Breaking Bad. Yeah I said it! It is a profound study of consequences in a horrific and truthful manner. Hundreds of thousands of people dead and a large majority of those were due to ignorance.  I think if there is something controversial about my opinion on

The Genie Effect: WWDC2019

Image
Apple is not a company build on maybe’s and should be’s, it did not go from underdog to industry leader with guessing and rushing. Apple is Apple because THEIR identity is defined, strong, and DRIVES them every day, product, keynote and update. Last week WWDC 2019 happened and we realized Apple listens, even when they make mistakes, even when they take more time than most wish… They are not your personal technology company. Why I open with that paragraph is simple: many or few years after people asked them Apple delivered and delivered BIG. Let me break down this statement to the specifics: watchOS 6: they listened to everyone asking for more and more independence of the watch with the App Store and the capability of apps to run locally leave the iPhone behind more every day. However, they also presented to us the HEALTH focus of this device. We never asked for it to save lives, to have an ECG, to help us become healthier and even to ask us if we are ok when we fall. But thos

Baba Yaga 3: A movie review

Image
A man and his dog, a man and his car, a man and his wife… Those 3 storylines where given the Keanu Reeves treatment back in 2014 with the original John Wick movie that blew up and created a great gap of opportunity that he did not waste. In my opinion, his best trilogy and one of the most consistent action franchises out there (second to Mission Impossible of course) got its third installment called Parabellum and of course, I HAD to watch and review. The movie, AMAZING; the ending not as much. I believe the action sequences, the fighting choreography and the directness and simplicity of the plot add up to an amazing action experience that you have to enjoy in the movie theatre. This is NOT a movie best suited for the couch at home. The audiovisual experience of following the Baba Yaga as an “excommunicato” is worth every penny you pay. Keanu Reeves is a no-surprise amazing actor that gets dirty and gritty in his own Tom-Cruse-ian way, he cares about the product and you can

Endgame Rant part 1: CAP and TONY

Image
So, endgame happened and it has been long enough to throw spoilers at the internet without being yelled at… I hope… SO SPOILER ALERT, this entry is going to talk in depth about 2 characters I really have wanted to ever since I saw the movie a third time. There is A LOT to analyze to this movie after investing over a decade into it. I usually write half a page of guide notes for my podcasts about movie reviews; however, for this one I have 5 pages of notes. I have been planning on how to split it up because as the web has been flooded with reviews, videos, articles, speculations, etc. So what do I have to add to this? Answer is simple: two words, Separate Breakdowns. I have taken my time to come up with distinct characters, points of view, and perspectives on this movie that truly is going to be remembered as a movie that marked a generation or two. I have been saying for quite a while that Civil War has my favorite character moments of the entire marvel universe (pre-Endgame

How to watch "Shazam"

Image
Do you remember the power of your imagination? Being a kid able to create an entire universe inside of a box? Idolizing Superman and Batman while pretending to be Spiderman? It does not matter what your answer is, because in a world filled with comic book and superhero movie entertainment as great as we have today there HAS to be a differentiating factor between another DC movie and a GREAT DC movie. Especially when you take into account horrible mishaps like Suicide Squad, or amazing, successful accomplishments like Wonder Woman. What a wonderful, funny, entertaining and heartwarming movie Shazam is! Please go watch this movie with your family, significant others, friends and anyone who needs and/or likes to have a smile on their face throughout and after watching a movie. Please think about your childhood before going in to watch it. Think about the happiness of playing yourself tired on a bike, with a toy, or just a cape with which you imagined you could actually fly a

How to watch "Us" the movie

Image
Jordan Peele went from one spectrum of entertainment to the other: from comedy to horror/thriller movies. He decided to surprise the world with an “instant classic” called “Get Out” that was universally loved and made the expectations for all other movies by him to have a crazy high bar of quality and thematic complexity. So, I went to watch his next movie called “Us” with that public criticism in mind and personally trying to see it from a neutral point of view. I loved this movie for a completely different reason than why I loved “Get Out”. I believe they close to equal in quality even when they are nothing alike, if I HAD to choose one over the other I would choose “Get Out” but that means nothing against “Us”. And here are the reasons why this movie was amazing and why you should watch it with an open mind: Acting from a whole other level! Lupita Nyong’o, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Winston Duke and Evan Alex act like you have not seen in a loooong time (in that order from m

Apple's Endgame

Image
So, here we are. Apple announced hardware via internet and called everyone in for services… Was the latter part of the presentation awkward? Yes. Could it have been planned in a more effective way? Probably. However, we got what we got and we must understand that Apple does not act without a plan. Here is my analysis of the true importance behind the event this past Monday: The Mac, the iPod, the MacBook Air, the iPhone, the iPad, the Apple Watch these are all attempts at products to drive the business. Some way more successful than others, they all have made what Apple is and will continue to be today. You see, there is a commonality amongst those products… They are not services. And THAT is exactly what Apple told the world on Monday: services are the future. Does this mean that it is THE END for iPhone, Apple Watch, etc. etc.? HELL NO! It means that the market is the market! And the iPhone is stagnating and decreasing in sales, the Mac, iPad and even Apple Watch cannot sus
