It's Showtime!

Image
Monday 25 th of March 2019 is around the corner and that is something I usually don’t write or podcast before the event in preparing for it… But this time, me and the rest of the internet, has figured something different is coming. This week went a little different to many weeks before an Apple event: Starting Monday 18 th and continuing this full week, they cleared the room of speculation regarding most, if not all, product announcements. New watchbands and refreshing the iMac could be a normal course of action to just throw out into the social media world. However, then came the iPad explosion: iPad Mini 5 and a new iPad Air, both with first generation Apple Pencil support caught everyone by surprise by being announced outside an auditorium. Oh, but wait there’s more! They broke out the second version (or what I like to call 1.5 update) of AirPods!!! Yeah, one of the most popular products Apple has made in the last, maybe 5 years. Everyone was in shock! Rumors are nothing...

TRY

They say loneliness is a beautiful place to go to, but a horrible place to live in; and dark days are only there for light ones to shine brighter. It is a child’s rationale to think that the best part of a relationship is the Disney-falling-in-love-part of it all. Because when you find THE ONE, you will definitely live happily ever after. There are hard days… I won’t lie… days   where you look at social media and think to yourself “maybe I should just be out there looking for fun and nothing else”. But let me tell you about the other ones the majority ones. The days you NEVER want to end… The ones where you get a hold of her small details, the things she either does not share or just people over look. The fake smile vs. the real one; the dimples and the wrinkles of her face when she looks at you. Those people out there in the social media world, they are showing you and themselves a version that they wish SOMEONE will love. They are looking for what I already have. I kno...

Let the tech year unfold...

Image
The new Apple event was announced a couple of days back. And my last tech-episode on the podcast got me thinking about this year and the current "trends" in tech. I believe that Apple has one of the biggest challenges you could ever hear in front of them: adapt to survive WHILE BEING ON TOP. Steve Jobs was an amazing underdog, a creative mastermind that rose to the top of the tech community at his time and shot Apple like a rocket to the summit of the world as one of the most influential and prosperous companies ever... However, that IS NOT the company that Tim Cook has had to deal with. Apple is now working in saturated laptop and smartphone markets and is trying to maintain its innovation and creativity. People think it is easy to stay on top... Amazon has had to get all kinds of creative by entering product line, new services offers and buying pieces of the market they compete in as they did with Whole Foods. Facebook is saved by the quality of companies like In...

What does Captain Marvel MEAN to the MCU?

Image
So, here's the deal. I did a podcast entry about captain marvel and my thoughts on the movie and how unimpressed I was about some things and how glad and proud other parts of the movie made me. And that’s when it came to me: the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Captain Marvel was not the best movie, it was a necessary one. Clearly, the end of an era approaches quickly as April is almost here with Endgame. Do you think for a minute that Kevin Feige is done with his plan for the MCU? Do you think that they introduced the world to such great successful Black Panther, Spiderman, Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy AND Dr. Strange just because? Well if you do, you have something else coming your way… And that is the only thing I fear in the MCU. You see, the success story of Marvel has been with a great formula and an expansive universe that has great comedy, range and plot; that same amazing formula has been leading up this very important and climatic movie call...

"To Be Young, Gifted and Black"

“We all know what it is like to be the tail and not the head (...) We knew we had something special that we wanted to give the world, a vision of the world that we wanted to see.” Chadwick Boseman and the cast of Black Panther at the SAG awards thanked everyone there. In my latest podcast episode on  iTunes ,  Spotify  and  Soundcloud  I spoke about how excited this year has me about best picture because of the quality of movie making and themes behind the movies in the list. I do not appreciate The Favorite and Vice to much as nominees for the best picture, I believe they are great movies and AMAZING performances but as movies compared to the other 6 films I thought they are just a level below.  So yesterday, I saw the last movie I was missing before the Oscars: Green Book. And WOW just WOW. I love that this movie was completely under my radar, I heard people talk about it being good, others great, others amazing. The plot is based on a true-...

The Netflix Superiority

Image
Here is an entry that came to mind as soon as I was done with watching 2 documentaries on Netflix over the last few days: Fyre Festival and One of Us. I was thinking about how Netflix started as a distribution app, that had your local movie rental business broke due to the ease with which you could just pay once a month to have a large amount of movies available all day every day. And realized how far ahead of everyone else they are nowadays. In a world where their competition is either in-on the streaming service business or have announced to be preparing to get into the business, they have the true upper hand in terms of what matters most in today's streaming world: content. Netflix has found that the "hottest" intellectual properties (IP's) is not what gives you the upper hand; but rather producing and supporting new and innovative properties. The strategy of having access to new IP's had value at some point in the past when they produced Marvel De...

Wrapping Up 2018 Tech

Image
So the year has come and gone! I hope you have already heard the second to last episode of The Apple Worm Podcast on Soundcloud or Apple Podcast App ! Every year I do two final podcast and blog episodes: the first is on tech and the second on movies, so here we go. First, a small but important piece about my thoughts on what I believe happened and was most relevant to MY tech year and hopefully yours too: 1. The cheap-but-awesome smartphone market went from good to great! Phones like the Pocophone by XiaoMi and the One Plus 6T proved to the world that they can play in a price range that Apple does not and dominate enough to impress anyone who has a budget and still wants to get a flagship quality phone. 2. Smart speakers and machine learning technology is the NOW. If anyone ever wondered which technology would be more relevant between Augmented and Virtual Reality, well 2018 really settled that debate. Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, whoever you have in your life nowad...
