The WWDC Wish List

So, it has been a while since I wrote an open entry to Apple (as if they read this... 😅) about my wishes for the upcoming year, or in this case for the upcoming World Wide Developers Conference. Since the conference is this next Monday I have put together a small list to share with you guys my thoughts on why WWDC is so important and should be for anyone who appreciates the world as changed by Apple technology.

My inspiration for this wishlist comes from 2 things mainly:
  1. The jaw-dropping, incredible, and probably not happening (although I am hoping for the best always) iOS concept from Michael Calcada called iOS(AR)
  2. The hardware possibilities most talked about for this year in terms of new and/or updated products for Apple.
First, let us stay true to our reality.

We live in a social media "imprint" kind of world; one where the people who most make noise get most of the attention in the short term. However, slowly but surely, their cockiness and search for spotlight fades away and leaves way for the true value and capability of the products Apple launches, improves, updates, etc. A short and sweet example: the iPhone X and iPhone 8 models. Amazing models made not only to celebrate the smartphone that changed the world, but also to innovate looking forward to another successful decade of Apple hardware lineups. Short term noise: too expensive, will not sell, not MY Apple, the iPhone 8 will go under the radar, etc. True impact, top selling phones of the first quarter of 2018:
  1. iPhoneX
  2. iPhone 8
  3. iPhone 8 Plus
  4. iPhone 7
  5. XiaoMi Redmi 5A
And now, lets wish:

First and most importantly: SMART NOTIFICATION HUB

Please Apple, let there be a better way to present notifications that the old chronological endless list that we have had for so long. This is the time to adapt to iOS the characteristic that is most criticized by both iOS and Android users. The ease with which people could deal with grouped notifications and the possibilities that developers could have with a notification hub fully capable of gestures such as 3D Touch could change the game!

Second, something simple: you already have the option to invert colors throughout the software, so use that to enable a DARK MODE. Such a simple yet visually requested and satisfying effect that could ease the use of battery Specially with OLED screens like the iPhone X.

Third, an adaptation from iOS for the iPad: Picture in Picture everything, most significantly with FaceTime conversations! This means that the iPhone can multitask just as much as the iPad which already proves the capability of the A10 and A10X chips.
Fourth, hardware improvements that matter to those who are most faithful to the brand and its products. MacBook Air with retina display and maybe even ForceTouch trackpad. Fix the AirPower charging mat availability issue.

Last but not least, developer access to new features that would be exponentially improved by third party access and creativity. Control center capabilities, grouped and smart notifications, picture in picture video, augmented reality capabilities for Maps, Camera, etc.

I believe my wishlist should be read whilst simultaneously thinking about opening the new characteristics of the software to trusted, profesional third party developers. The best thing that has ever happened to Apple has been the App Store, because thanks to developers (which are the focus of WWDC) an infinite amount of possibilities opened up and continues to exist and flourish as long as Apple and the OS teams understand the importance of third party access to the amazing ecosystem that Apple has grown over the last 10 plus years since the App Store was introduced with around 500 apps to help improve the iPhone 3G.

How many of my wishes will Apple grant me over the next 2 years of developers conference and iOS updates? who knows... But at the very least, my positive ideas of why they would enrich this already amazing Apple product line and ecosystem continuity that I and many others live in, are out there to be taken into account.

Look forward to my post WWDC 2018 Keynote coming to you soon next week. And follow my live twitter updates @RealAppleWorm.
