(YOU) Yes, Only you will Understand

When we’re kids we want to grow up.
When we grow up all we want is to stay young.
When you’re in school they warn you about high school.
When you’re in high school they warn you about college.
When you’re in college they warn you about “real life”.
When you get a job they warn you about being married and having a kid.
When you get a kid, they warn you about having kids…

All those "warnings, equations, recommendations, guidance formulas…” to how to manage a successful life, how to find success, how to live well…
And yet your life isn’t a  pencil drawing made from the lines from one of those guidelines to the next. It’s a painting that you make from the shades and mixtures of the primary colors you decide to use every day.
It’s not about coloring by staying in-the-lines, it’s about realizing that the canvas has the shape and size that you need it to have.

As this year is beginning to end, I want to remind you that
I know, so far:

You might have had heavy days.
You may have not slept as many hours as you wished.
You might have made mistakes.
You may have cried at one or more funerals.
You might have disappointed people.
You may have kept some emotions all to yourself.
You might have had to change plans, adapt to changes, put dreams on hold.
And the list could go on…

But here’s a more accurate picture of your year:

Every heavy day you live through, helped lighten someone else’s.
Every night you slept short hours, you lived just a little more.
Every mistake you made, humbled you into a wiser person.
Every funeral you cried at, gave you perspective on your life.
Every person you disappointed became a chance to prove your worth back.
Every emotion you kept in, became a lesson waiting to be unravelled.
Every time your plans change, you prove to be alive and in constant movement towards something, someone, somewhere

Let the list go on…
The longer the list the better.
Because the most significant attribute positive and negative moments have in common is that both are finite and will Always Come and Go.

Enjoy  the lighter days…
   the longer nights.
Remember your mistakes.

Love the people that are still with you and cherish the life of those who once were.

Become stereotype-proof.
incalculable yet not whimsical
and trustworthy.

Keep your EQ as good, if not better than your IQ.

And please, when you pick yourself up…
Dust off your dreams, take care of your goals and realize:

“What truly matters is to be happy”
